Address: 9221 Woodward St, Mission

Cost: $328 + GST for 5 one hour classes

You will learn to communicate effectively with your puppy to ensure a healthy and long lasting relationship. Join us for 5 one-hour classes that will cover everything you need. to know to help your puppy’s development of important life skills.

Is your puppy demonstrating unwanted behaviours such as jumping on guests, nipping at ankles, chewing on household items, digging and running away from you? In this class you will learn the following:

  • Engagement: How to gain your puppy’s attention and focus
  • Clicker training (see description below)
  • Sit, down, come and other basic obedience commands
  • Basic concepts of luring, heeling and introduction to loose leash walking
  • Touchpad work to teach your puppy spatial awareness and self control
  • “Place” command. This enables you to keep your dog nearby and involved in activities without being underfoot, such as when you are eating or answering the door.
  • How to teach your dog recall (to come when called!)

Each class has periods of Q&A, during these periods we try to cover some of the following topics, and we encourage owners to bring their own questions:

  • Feeding, nutrition
  • Chewing, play biting and teething
  • Grooming and nail clipping (handling of the feet)
  • Jumping – how to properly greet people
  • Housebreaking, potty training and crate training
  • Dog and child safety
  • Dog greeting etiquette and socialization

Puppies must have their 2nd vaccinations to attend the class. We do not require the Rabies vaccine to attend class. This is a very popular class with a limit of 8 dogs and fills up quickly. Please book online to reserve your spot.

The training method that will be used in this class is called Marker Training.

What is marker (or clicker) training? In a nutshell, it’s an animal training method based on behavioural psychology that relies on marking desirable behaviour and rewarding it. This black and white method of communication is based on positive reinforcement and will revolutionize the way that you train your dog.  This class will teach you about the power of training your dog with food and will focus on building the dog/handler relationship through engagement and motivation. During the class you will learn the basic concepts of luring, leash pressure and shaping of behaviours. We will also cover classical/operant conditioning and discuss how to build motivation in your dog through productive play. Marker training can be used to train any behaviour, from basic obedience and tricks to behavioural modification. There are no prerequisites for this class. It is recommended that you bring treats, a food pouch, leash and a clicker for your dog. The class has a limit of 8 dogs. Please book online now to reserve your spot.
